There is a strong Velcro closure with a center snap and there is a snapping loop to secure the knife. The blade is strong and razor-sharp. It is a classic fixed-blade hunting knife design. This is a straight-forward, no-nonsense knife with a good sweep and a good shape that looks suitable for cutting and dressing game.
Performance Review
Cold steel puts their knives through torture tests; it has been shown to be able to cut though a 1″ thick free hanging manila rope, it cut through more than 1500 lengths of cardboard without losing its edge and it has been plunged through the hood of a car with no damage to the knife. The edge retention on the knife is good, although after slicing some pressure treated wood a bit of the edge was gone and there was slight chipping.
