Spyderco came on strong in 1981 with the introduction of its first knife C01 Worker, prized for its form-follows-function aesthetic and ease of use. This simple one-handed folding blade helped to lead a revolution in the consumer knife industry, forever burning in the American consciousness their trademark matte-black and silver products as the very definition of a pocket-knife.
Since then, Spyderco has vastly expanded both the type and scope of their product line, producing everything from cookware to switchblades, ultra-modern multi-tools to the traditional “Arkansas Toothpick” Randall knife.
However, foldable hunting knives still remain Spyderco’s bread and butter. The company produces an enormous variety of blades, evidenced by the vast number of different steels used in manufacture. Over ten different kinds of stainless steel, including super-strong CPM Chromoly and modern laminated steels are used in a wide variety of blades. Straight and curved, serrated and laser-sharpened; Spyderco makes a blade for all occasions.
Their smallest is the Ladybug, a razor-sharp utility apparatus small enough to clip to one’s keychain. Made of VG-10 stainless steel, its wicked-looking blade measures only 2”, and combined with the utilitarian aluminum handle the whole unit weighs only slightly more that one of the aforementioned keys. The largest blade made is the fixed-blade Randall, coming in at about 6”, with all the rest in Spyderco’s vast line landing somewhere in between.
Though not the cheapest blades out there (the average Spyderco knife runs some 40-60% more than a cheap flea-market knock-off), the fact is that the average hunter or heavy user will go through three or more cheapies before they would have worn out a durable and well-engineered Spyderco blade. True, you may pay a significant premium to own a Spyderco blade, but in this case you definitely get what you pay for.

I bought the Remington Elite Hunter knife as a gift for my husband. He says it is the best knife he has ever owned. I am very pleased that I finally found a gift he enjoys and a hunting knife that he uses regularly. The knife was originally priced at $150.00, but I got it on sale for $125.00. What a great deal.

The Blade
It has a stainless steel blade that is 3.38 inches long. It is a clip point blade with the Remington logo etched into the side.

The Handle
The Remington hunting knife has an aluminum handle with staghorn inserts. I think the staghorn inserts and the genuine leather sheath it comes with make the knife very attractive. It looks worthy of being a collectors piece, but it is so functional my husband uses it all the time. My husband agrees it is a handsome knife.

Using the Knife
My husband says it feels good in his hand, not awkward. He also says it has a very sharp edge. The factory edge is the sharpest he has ever seen on a hunting knife. The staghorn on the handle keeps his hand from slipping as he is using the knife. Because it is a Remington, it is a brand name we trust and I know it will last a long time.

Gut hook knives help take some of the work out of skinning and dressing game. Every hunter should own at least one gut hook knife, and there are many to choose from when searching for the best one out there. Chances are, your not going to simply settle on one knife. There are 5 gut hook-hunting knives every hunter wants.

First, is a knife that is a must because it is a classic and has always been a popular knife; the Winchester 22-41789 Pakka Wood Large Fixed Blade Knife. This knife is a wonderful, reliable knife that is inexpensive. The blade is stainless steel and comes with a gut hook and a fine edge. The handle is pakka wood, which is a dark red colored wood that gives style as well as strength to the knife.
Another must have knife is the Gerber Blades 06932 Gator GH Folding Gut Hook Knife. It folds and locks back so the knife will never close on you. The blade is made from high carbon stainless steel and is a length of 3.75”. It has an easy grip handle that is equipped with Kraton rubber for a better grip. The entire length of the knife with the blade open is 8.75”. This knife is a full sized knife that folds, which is not very common and is said to be one of the best of its kind offered to the public.
Made by Gerber as well is the Freeman Gut Hook Hunter fine edge sheath knife-8465. The handle to this knife is pear wood that is strong and solid. It weighs 6.8 oz, with a blade length of 3.92”. The entire length of the knife including the blade is 8.35”. This knife was actually recognized in 2003 as one of the most favorable hunting knives ever made.
Another very popular knife that is a must have because it is so different and unique looking compared to the ordinary gut hook knife is the Cabela’s outfitters series gut hook knife known as the trigger skinner knife. The edge of the knife is razor sharp and has a nickel, Vanadium and Tungsten in the alloy to enhance the capability of taking an edge very quickly. It has a small, fat, gut hook that measures 4 ½”, with a 3/8” gap, and is 8½” length overall.
Last is the absolutely must have Kershaw Alaskan blade trader knife. It is equipped to switch to multiple blades; included is a AUS6A stainless steel gut hook blade for gutting that measures 6”; a 420J2 stainless steel blade for hunting that measures 3½”, and a saw steel blade for sawing your game that measures 6”. This knife is great because it gives you the opportunity to switch blades while using the same knife handle. The quick lock mechanism makes it easy and safe to switch blades in a matter of seconds. It also includes a leather sheath that is equipped with a holder for each individual blade. The overall weight of this knife is 11.6 oz. This knife is definitely top on my list of must have gut hook knives; and yet also includes two additional knives for sawing and hunting.

Drop Point Hunting Knives
Everyone that hunts knows they should own a drop point-hunting knife. These knives are simple yet popular, and have been around for quite some time. One brand known is the Browning Escalade Knives. The Browning drop point knife is a classic style knife that everyone should have. It has a 3¼” blade with an overall length of 7 3/8”. The blade shape on this knife is tremendously functional and makes skinning and dressing game a quick process. Included with this knife is a top of the line leather sheath to carry your knife in.

Cabela’s Drop Point Knives
A quality knife made by Cabela’s is the Rosewood Alpha Drop Point knife. This knife has a handle that is made from rich Rosewood and the blade is 154CM stainless steel that measures 4¼; the overall length of this Rosewood beauty is 8½”, and weight out to 7.2oz. This is a great drop point-hunting knife to have and is made by a trusted brand.

Leatherman Nehalem Drop Point
Every hunter knows that having a quality-folding pocketknife is also essential when cutting up game during hunting or camping. One of these top quality knives is the Leatherman Nehalem-154CM Folding Blade Hunting Knife. This is a drop point knife that also comes with a gut hook that is hidden until it is needed; this gut hook comes out of the opposite side of the knife as the blade, meaning that it comes out of the handle rather than it being positioned on the blade itself. The lockback on this knife is strong so it will never close on you. Hidden in the handle as well is a diamond coated sharpening tool to quickly sharpen your knife if needed. The blade on this knife measures 4”, which makes it a small, yet durable drop point knife.

Boker Knives
Another drop point knife that is good is the Boker Plus Collection Knife, 2009, BK-BO161. This knife is pretty and large, with a 440C stainless steel 7¼” drop point blade that has a satin finish and a two-tone polish creating a mirror reflection. The overall length of this knife however, is 12¼”. This is a collection knife made by Boker for 2009.

2009 L.L. Bean Collector’s Knife
Another 2009 collectors knife that was made is the L.L. Bean drop point collector’s knife. The blade on this knife is custom made and has a trademark 24kgold Maine hunting shoe engraved on it. This knife is a 2009 collection drop point knife as well as the Boker Plus collection knife. It also comes with a black presentation box with a glass lid to view through.

Woodsman Knife
One of my favorites, and a simpler knife is the Woodsman knife. This knife is great for fishing or for small game when hunting. It has a skinny, steel, drop point blade that measures 4” with an awesome leather stacked handle. Buck makes this knife solely for L.L. Bean. It also comes with a brown leather sheath for carrying.

These are some of the best drop point hunting knives of 2009, whether you choose a simple knife such as the Woodsman, or one of the classic collector’s knives of 2009 such as the L.L. Bean or the Boker Plus, you are definitely going to be satisfied with any of these drop point knives.

The clip point knife is used by many hunters for many different purposes. This type of knife is a staple in any hunter’s knife collection. This knife can be used for cleaning of animals, even big game, and with a good sharp blade, will cut through any skin or hide of any big game animal in North America. This knife is also perfect for those who are hunting on a part time basis, (one time per year) but not a good knife to do all the work needed to be done by knives in the process of cleaning animals on a regular basis.

One of the best rated Clip Point knives is the Gerber Gator. Consumers across the board find the handle to be the greatest attribute of this knife. The general consensus is that the handle gives a great grip even when it’s wet. The blade is made of stainless steel and is 3.75 in long. The knife in the open position is 8.75 in long and when folded will fit neatly into your breast pocket. The weight of the knife is exactly 5.0 ounces for easy carrying. This is one of the best selling clip point knives on the market and comes in 2 models, one with a serrated edge for more grips to the cut.

Another all time favorite among outdoorsmen is the Buck 110 Clip Point knife. This is the world’s most copied knife. Buck was the original creator of the all around outdoorsman’s knife. This knife now not only comes in the original hardwood and brass handle, but now with different inlays of pearl, turquoise, silver, and various other materials. The inlays are of various designs and can be a very original addition to any hunter’s knife collection. The 110 is 4.75 inches long when closed. The blade is made of 420HC stainless steel and is 3.2 inches long. The consumer reports on this knife have always been very good in regards to quality of the knife and the quality of the steel in the blade.

The Cabala’s Clip point knife, the Stag, is also one of those old time favorites in the Rockies. The handles on the Cabala’s Stag, are said to be comparable to the finest in the world. The Cabala’s knife is a little smaller than other knives in this category, and that is what makes it more appealing to some hunters. The blade is made of 440A stainless steel that is known for its ability to hold an edge longer than other stainless blades. Rambo hunting knives make the hard work easy; they have many different styles to choose from that will significantly help you when hunting. Many hunters have their own preference on which Rambo hunting knife is best for them, there are a few that are top on the list of must have Rambo hunting knives.

First Blood Knife
This knife has a 420J2 stainless steel blade with a serrated back edge; the blade length measures 10” with a ¼” blade thickness. It has a compass and an emergency survival kit that is positioned in the pommel. This is a good, basic Rambo knife to have that comes with a black leather snap case.

Rambo Hunting Knife
A much larger knife compared to the previous one mentioned is the 13” Rambo hunting knife, GeKs5859-1 model. This knife has an overall length of 13” with a blade length of 8”. This knife has a blade that is stainless steel and a handle that is hard rubber with a stainless steel trim. It is also much heavier weighing 1.95lbs and comes equipped with a Balistic Nylon sheath. This knife also has much smaller serrated teeth on the back of the blade.

Wood Handled Rambo Hunting Knife
This deadly knife is great for hunting and has a very large serrated edge that makes it look wicked. The exceptionally sharp stainless steel blade measures 6.25” with a wooden handle that makes the knife simple that is comfortable to grip. The length of the knife overall is 11.75” and it includes an authentic leather sheath.

Simple Rambo Hunting Knife
A more simple but very sharp hunting knife is the 15” Rambo hunting knife that does not have any serrated edges on it but a simple severely sharp blade that measures 10” with an overall length of 15” for the entire knife. The blade on this knife is large and long and is cut off at a square angle at the tip. It is so sharp it can be used as a machete to cut small trees. It comes with a leather sheath for carrying.

Limited Edition
If you want everyone to know your knife is a Rambo, then one of the best deals on the Rambo knives you can get is the limited edition Rambo Signature Edition Knife. It is a blade that mimics the one used in the Rambo movie. The blade is 13” with a thickness of ¼”, and the entire knife is 18”; so this is a rather large knife. The knife also comes with an authentic leather sheath with a leg tie. This knife is a “pretty” knife that a lot of people like to show off. This is a wonderful knife however; I would prefer the deadly serrated knife to this one.

Whether you prefer a simple yet extremely sharp knife, or a fancier serrated edge knife, Rambo has it. These knives will make all of your hunting trips and experiences easier with every slice. The serrated edges on some of the Rambo knives make the tough cutting jobs much easier, especially when cutting through large game.
